Chanel
Top 5 Waterproof Fixers

Chanel's classic Inimitable mascara - the one that keeps lashes long and luscious - just so happens to come in the waterproof variety. Using elastomer brushes with a waterproof formula, the mascara that brings volume, length and curl is now well equipped for the summer. So, if your summer includes an encounter with a beach or pool, this is the mascara for you.

Silver Screen

Shaking off the heavy-lidded, gilt-edged trends of last autumn, the beauty world predictably turned to a softer approach for spring/summer 2009. As a carefree romanticism took a hold of the season's catwalks, hair was made flyaway, lids were left smudged and skin was kept shiny, with a little help from the make-up artist's closest spring friend; the colour silver. Take a hint from the Vera Wang models, who sported sparkling rainbow-shapes of iridescent silver powder, or take the shade all over the eyes and right into the corners for a messy, lived-in look like this one seen at Giorgio Armani.

Beauty Trend: Hair
Spring/Summer 2009

That's A PlaitChignons, rolls, pleats and now plaits - hair seemed to be rejoicing in its own girliness on the spring/summer 2009 runways, and having been around for a couple of seasons now, the humble braid doesn't seem to be going anywhere quietly. Huge fishtail plaits made their mark at Erdem, while dinky, tightly wound braids framed faces at Carolina Herrera. Charles Worthington stylist Andrew John was asked to make hair at the Erdem show "look like girls had started a journey with an immaculate, groomed style, but then to imagine they have been running through the woods for three days and how the hair would look after that. We worked on this idea to create a messy, dishevelled look yet withsimple, feminine touch.''

Neo Pretty

Pretty pinks and romantic rosy flushes are eternal beauty fail-safes for the summer season, but this year things took a modernist twist with hints of hi-tech radiance and slicks of sci-fi. "It's about looking healthy, fresh and luminous," said make-up artist extraordinare Pat McGrath of spring/summer 2009's neo-pretty reinvention. Look to the delicate pink glows on model's cheeks at Anna Sui and the glossy, almost lacquered wet finishes at Nathan Jenden, Alessandro Dell'Acqua and Dolce & Gabbana for sexy and wearable inspiration.
